Project Description

The Residence Inn Memphis is a historic hotel that sits on the basin of the Mississippi River.  This beautiful Art Deco-Inspired building was constructed in 1930 as the Hotel William Len.  The hotel was well known for its stunning deco elevator doors and delicious Coffee Shop treats.  Later it became the notable Viking Hotel.  In 1991 this historical building was converted into 89 modern apartments and remained an apartment building until 2003.  Marriott purchased and converted the apartments back to hotel rooms, without toughing the room layouts.  This provided unique guestroom opportunities for the Residence Inn brand.  The dazzling original Art Deco details in the mezzanine windows, railings, stone veneers, and flooring were all preserved.  Although the original elevator doors do not remain, they were brought back to life in a custom-designed Art Deco-inspired metal detailing at the elevator doors to compliment the original floor indicators and surrounding lighting accents.  The space drips in Art Deco glamour today as it always has.
